This Rundown Silver Lake Home Had the Square Footage, It Just Needed the Right Style

As far as the design was concerned, ​​Annie aimed to embrace a neutral palette in tandem with the architecture, but add what she calls moments of fun. “Given that the home is a classic Spanish style, we wanted to juxtapose that classic look with a fresh and modern take,” she says. They used midcentury and trendy pieces from mainstay outposts like West Elm and CB2, but paired them with vintage finds including a rattan chaise in the library and a sofa in the one-bedroom apartment.

“One of my favorite pops of color is one of our original art pieces created by Faith Hughes, a local artist we love to collaborate with,” ​​Annie continues. “We used it in the living room, and it really mixes things up in an otherwise very neutral space.”

Lori and ​​Annie feel fortunate that the house gave them so many details to work with that by the end of the project, the ambiance was truly a balance of old meets new. As it turns out, the property happened to be a scene-stealer with plenty of room to spare—a rarity in a city that’s always looking out for something big to discover.

“A family had lived there for a while, and now a new family is moving in,” Lori says. “The location and square footage is everything.”
