Beyoncé Celebrated Her BeyDay at Marlon Brando’s Private Island

Last week, Beyoncé spent her birthday with thousands of fans and a slew of stars from Katy Perry to Keke Palmer to Diana Ross—who serenaded the “Cuff It” singer with a soulful rendition of “Happy Birthday” in a special appearance on stage—at the third LA concert of her Renaissance World Tour. As fun as a stadium-sized party seems, the pop sensation understandably wanted the best of both worlds: she continued the festivities with a far more intimate affair in French Polynesia. The perfect getaway to decompress from a busy summer of touring your Grammy-winning album? A private island.

According to TMZ, Beyoncé was joined by husband Jay-Z, their three children, and a small entourage of friends and family at The Brando luxury eco resort, reportedly renting out a group of 11 villas. The publication claims that the power couple and company arrived last Tuesday and that they stayed “at least” through Friday at the resort’s main residence, which, at a rate of $20,000-a-night per TMZ, still doesn’t come close to making a dent in the $6.71 million estimated average revenue that the songstress pulls in each show.

The Brando is named for the late Marlon Brando, who, per the establishment’s website, first visited the Tetiaroa atoll during a shoot for Mutiny on the Bounty. He bought the atoll—a ring-shaped chain of islands made of coral—in 1967. The resort aims to provide a luxury experience that aligns with responsible stewardship of its natural surroundings, something Brando apparently valued deeply: “Marlon was fascinated by renewable resources, organic farming practices, and alternative energy sources, long before it was in the zeitgeist,” The Brando’s website reads. The facilities are described as eco-friendly, constructed using natural materials and advanced insulation to give guests their own “private cocoons.”

A one-bedroom villa at The Brando measures in at 1,033 square feet. Back home in California, Beyoncé’s own Tadao Ando abode is essentially its own private island at a whopping 40,000 square feet.
