Thanks to Flamingo Estate, You Can Now Buy Honey Made at the Homes of Lebron James, Will Ferrell, and More Stars

Ever wonder what the difference in taste would be between honey harvested in Lebron James’s Bel Air garden versus in Julianne Moore’s Montauk meadow? Well, now is the time for the most curious among us to finally get their answers. Farm-fresh wellness and lifestyle brand Flamingo Estate, which has long offered its own line of honey (founder Richard Christiansen has a beekeeping background), is releasing a limited edition honey line harvested from celebrity homes, each with its own flavor profile indicative of the surrounding flora, and a charity selected by each celebrity host to receive 100% of the profits from the sales of their particular strain of honey. (For the record, Lebron James honey has a complex flavor profile with notes of Chinese elm and eucalyptus, while Julianne Moore’s has a nuttier taste imbued with goldenrod and blueberry.) 

Christiansen, who is also the founder of the creative agency Chandelier Creative and the Highland Park bookstore The Owl Bureau, moved into the Eagle Rock house that would become Flamingo Estate’s namesake in 2017. The 1940s-built Spanish colonial was not in good shape, but Christiansen had it meticulously rebuilt and designed by AD100 firm Studio KO. He then hired landscape architect Arnaud Casaus to help him transform the dilapidated gardens into seven lush acres capable of growing everything from avocados to tobacco to Japanese plums. Using produce from the bountiful harvests, Flamingo Estate began offering a line of thoughtfully created soaps and candles. When the pandemic hit, the brand quickly grew after connecting struggling farmers to Angelinos with organic CSA boxes and flowers from a growing network of farms. From there, the brand continued to expand its offerings, influenced by Christiansen’s fanciful tastes and Chandelier Creative’s high-end sartorial background every step of the way. Case in point: when Flamingo Estate debuted its rosé wine last year, it did so alongside a limited edition line of ice buckets designed by renowned architect Gaetano Pesce.

For the honey line, Flamingo Estate hives were sent to the homes of five notable people. Below, we take a bee’s-eye-view of the properties pollinated.

Tiffany Haddish

Apparently, Tiffany Haddish’s hive produced honey that tastes “as fresh as [her] SNL monologue” according to a release. Not much is known about the comedian’s South Central LA home, but apparently, the Girl’s Trip star is an avid gardener. Her honey features notes of the trumpet flowers and thyme that she planted in her yard.

Ai Weiwei

Legendary artist Ai Weiwei resides in Portugal, just outside of Lisbon. Reportedly, the Beijing-born artist was drawn to Portugal’s sunny weather when he bought the property at the onset of the pandemic. The floral honey produced by his beehive has been pollinated with notes of lavender and olives.

Will Ferrell

Will Ferrell reportedly bought his Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles home from Ellen DeGeneres for $9.9 million back in 2007. The compound is made up of three parcels of land covering about 2.5 acres, where his bees enjoyed flowering acacia, mature oak trees, California buckwheat, and sage.
