Zaha Hadid Architects and ETH Zurich make knitted concrete machine

A double-bent concrete shell made with a 3D-knitted formwork in a collaboration between Zaha Hadid Architects and ETH Zurich has long previous on point to in Mexico Metropolis.

KnitCret is a fresh 3D-knitted textile machine for increasing curving concrete structures, with out the need for costly and time-intelligent moulds.

The colourful pavilion is named KnitCandela in homage to the work of Spanish-Mexican architect and engineer Félix Candela, who created dramatic bent concrete shells in his constructions such because the Los Manantiales Restaurant in 1958.

Over two miles of legend became once knitted into four strips of between 15 and 26 metres in honest 36 hours utilizing a digital fabrication procedure, then flown over from Switzerland to Mexico in suitcases.
