Text description provided by the architects.

On the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, the project is located. The property is surrounded by eucalyptus trees and has a peaceful atmosphere. Three autonomous volumes—studios, social areas, and guest rooms—are positioned on the hillside and are placed in the mountains at various heights with artists as the primary users, which stimulates the dialogue of the place.

The shape derives from the “mushroom house” in the Hani ethnic group’s traditional house in Honghe, Yunnan—thatched huts are retracted from above and placed on the bottom, with solid earthen walls, firmly riveted on the red soil, shaped like natural growth, becoming a deduction of light “Storage Box”. The roof is made of black slate tiles, and the outside façade is made of a red concrete paint that matches the hue of the local red clay.
