You’ll Want to Dive Right Into This Pink Checkered Pool

It was important that the tile chosen for the pool was well-aligned with Sam’s taste, as it became the centerpiece of the backyard space. From the start, it was clear that Fireclay Tile was the right fit. The brand gifted the tile to her for the project, but Sam insists that she’s been impressed by their work ever since using their products for her kitchen backsplash.

AFTER: The colorful and shapely furniture adds to the overall whimsy.

Since Sam grew up in Southern California, people have assumed she’s used to having a pool of her own. But it’s actually a much anticipated first. “I’ve always loved swimming and [a pool has] always been one of those things that my husband and I have said we wanted, but we’ve also seen it as being completely out of reach or not possible,” she says. Sam and her husband’s yearning for an outdoor oasis of their own has been a longtime dream. “When we moved into our house, we had a nice little backyard. There were some plants there and a dead tree in the middle of the yard…but I don’t think we really thought we’d be able to add a pool ever.”

For the past few years, while Swimply helped scratch the couple’s swimming itch during hot summers, their backyard has remained mostly untouched beyond its seating options and grill. Now, after working with a landscaper to design a perfectly pastel garden, nurturing the backyard feels less intimidating and more like an extension of her interest in interiors.

AFTER: The arched opening of the cabana added so much to the final backyard transformation.

AFTER: More tiled elements tie the pool house interior to the pool itself.

Just as everything was beginning to come together with the backyard’s pool and landscaping this spring, the couple decided to integrate a last minute addition: a cabana. Thankfully, their detached garage was located in the backyard, making the process relatively simple. They had one of the stucco walls knocked out and replaced it with a large arched entryway. Then, pink curtains were added to seamlessly tie the two areas together.

Figuring out the best way to accessorize the space came easy, as Sam has already mastered how to bring the energy and playfulness of her well-decorated interior to the exterior. Sam added some whimsical pool floaties and repurposed colorful bath mats to complete the look of her backyard. We can tell that she’s already making it clear her decorating prowess is just as potent in the great outdoors.
