Since 2009, Withings has led the way in bringing medical-grade measurements at homeme, such as measurements for pulse wave velocity and electrodermal activity. Its consumer health products span to include smart scales, blood pressure monitors, and sleep analyzers. With a dedication towards improving the digital health tracking for consumers worldwide, the French company debuts its next generation hybrid smartwatch models at IFA 2023 in Berlin. ScanWatch 2 and ScanWatch Light offer enhanced monitoring of the body’s internal conditions, featuring substantial upgrades in sensor hardware and HealthSenseTM, Withings’ exclusive operating system.

ScanWatch 2 + ScanWatch LIGHT

The original device stood out from the market by offering a smartwatch tailored to bio tracking. In the upgraded 2023 series, the ScanWatch 2 and the ScanWatch Light come in a sleek body that can be paired with any outfit. This aesthetic subtly doesn’t come at the cost of function — Withings’ team of engineers and researchers packed a high density of sensors into the watches’ body, granting the user a more comprehensive look into their personal health.

The ScanWatch 2 and its more affordable counter, the ScanWatch Light, are noticeably stylish with their lightweight frames, OLED grayscale displays, and analog clock faces. Moving away from the screen-centric aesthetic of a typical smart watch, the Withings timepiece gives its wearer an alternative access point to the body’s inner workings. Additionally, each model can be customized by size, metallic finish, wristband, and face color.

Their wearability is not just limited to its aesthetic. From the dawn and into the late hours of the night, users receive continuous health data thanks to the products’ 30-day battery life. New sensors, a mobile app, and updated software means this ScanWatch creates an even more data-rich wellness record.

‘The extraordinary new ScanWatch are timepieces that represent a remarkable fusion of cutting edge
technology and timeless design, setting a new standard for health monitoring and style. With an even greater ability to continuously track advanced health metrics that were once only available in a clinical setting, we are empowering people to make better health part of their daily lives,’ says Eric Carreel, founder and President of Withings.

Included in the over forty different physical activities the watches recognize, the system has the ability to track the female reproductive cycle, fluctuations in baseline body temperature, and patterns in heart rate. These capabilities are enabled by the watches’ density of sensors, like a MultiWave PPG Sensor and a High Dynamic Range Accelerometer, that create more precise and robust tracking. Also, because of the TempTech24/7 module, the system is able to track the body’s fluctuations in temperature through high-accuracy temperature sensors combined with heart-rate and accelerometer input.

All of this data gathered is then easily accessed through reports generated in the Withings app. This ‘360-degree health data hub’ offers the user a health improvement score with insights and tips from health and fitness experts. This release has expanded its tracking capabilities to include female-health specific tools. A menstrual cycle report can be generated and easily shared with the user’s physician, helping women create personal routines that align with their monthly needs and optimize sleep, activity, and nutrition all month long.
