inspired by underwear
according to tokujin yoshioka, ‘AIRism 3D is a mask that harmonizes function with design’. like in most works of the japanese designer, the creative process of the project began from designing its production. inspired by the production technique of underwear, the mask is formed together by welding fabrics with the aim to make it completely stitchless and pursue a softer touch on the skin. this functional, simple, and beautiful design was achieved from more than 100 prototyping and testings that went on for over a year.
the AIRism 3D is available from january 1st, 2022 at UNIQLO stores in japan including the japan online store. the mask will be available in four sizes (S, M, L, and XL) and in three different colors (white, pink and navy). according to the fashion brand, the three-layer design maintains its high filter functionality even after washing, making for an efficient, durable mask.
