For the floor, 12-by-24-inch Calacatta Bettogli tiles were used everywhere except the shower, where a 2-inch penny round mosaic was installed for slip resistance. “The large format tiles introduce a dramatic sense of movement, reminiscent of ocean waves that bring to mind the calming ease of the sea,” Laura notes. The luxe brass finish of the lighting, faucets, shower fixtures, and towel bars contrasts with the minimal-rustic vanity, while soft curves are repeated throughout. “This added a softness and a sensual feeling to the room, which risked feeling too cold and hard without these details,” Laura says.

The guest bathroom also got a full facelift. “We were under a tight budget and had to strategically select what would remain and be incorporated into our new design, and what had to go,” the interior designer explains. The black ceramic floor tiles and shower were preserved, but the bold terrazzo wall tiles, matte black vanity, faucet, medicine cabinet, lighting, and toilet are all new.

“The guest bathroom is really fun and bold, and we were able to achieve this transformation at a fraction of the cost of a complete bathroom renovation.”
