This Eames Chair Reflects a Sense of Permanence Inside This Victorian Home

She noticed that a majority of the spaces on her moodboard had an Eames chair, so when she and her fiancé bought their home in San Francisco—“a true Queen-Anne Victorian built in the 1900s”—she felt ready to finally make the purchase. They bought the tall version of the classic chair to optimize on comfort, and opted for all-grain leather black leather with a walnut shell. “I seriously considered switching to white leather,” she admits, but since she plans to keep the chair for many years to come, black felt like the best option.

Where?

It had been a dream of Tanya’s to live in a classical San Francisco Victorian home, and she liked how an Eames chair would modernize the space without overshadowing historical details—like the high-coved ceilings, long hallways, decorative moldings, and tall bay windows. The chair currently sits in what her fiancé calls “the music room,” the space where they retreat when they want to listen to a new album or favorite artist. It’s also the first room visitors see when they enter the house. “It blends beautifully into the home’s 19th century architecture while still bringing to surface a more contemporary style,” she says.

Why?

Buying the Eames chair when she finished business school was more than just a graduation gift to herself–it represented how all the hard work that she put in  throughout her life had paid off. As the daughter of Mexican immigrants, Tanya never lost sight of how her family risked everything in order to provide her with a more stable life in Chula Vista, California, a few miles north of the US-Mexico border, where she could follow her dreams and achieve success someday. 

“I was constantly reminded of the sacrifices made in order to provide me with the means to choose my own destiny,” Tanya explains.. “It wouldn’t be until my freshman year in college that I would take my family’s efforts more seriously, realizing it was up to no one other than myself to create a life I could be proud of and most importantly, enjoy.” 

Tanya was faced with a different kind of risk with launching Eauso Vert. She’d developed the business plan while still in business school. By the time she graduated, Tanya and her co-founder had secured their first fragrance house and were developing their first prototype. She had manifested the company, and life, she wanted. Indeed, it had all paid off.
