AgileX Robotics is a leading tech company founded in 2016 with a mission to build industry-leading robotic driving solutions to improve productivity and security. Its current product line-up features Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV) (incl. omnidirectional RANGER MINI, crawler-type BUNKER, all-round SCOUT 2.0), and an indoor Automated Global Vehicle (AGV) dubbed TRACER.
Earlier this month, AgileX released a teaser video announcing its latest robotic member, RANGER, designed as an omnidirectional and multipurpose mobile platform that can support a 150 kg load. The company describes it as ‘[an] industry-level application master, [that] can be used in inspection, agriculture, energy, security scenarios.’
industry-level capabilities
Weighing 100 kg, the AgileX Robotics RANGER is fitted with an IP55 water-resistant shell, a 560 mm track, and an 890 mm wheelbase that can rotate in any direction and withstand most terrains and weather conditions. Powering the robotic platform is a 48V brushless geared hub motor and a 600W*4 battery. Once up and running, it can reach a top speed of 2.6m/s. Users can maneuver the ride using a controller with presumably simple commands.
The company took the RANGER on test rides across different terrains — namely mountain roads, stairs, and gravel paths. Results show the vehicle successfully conquering a maximum sloping of 10 degrees and 10 cm-high obstacles.
It’s still unclear how the four-wheeler can be tailored for security operations, but it offers a promising performance inside warehouses, on agricultural lands, and in other similar industrial settings.
