Shonda Rhimes Lists Hancock Park English Country-Style Mansion for $6.5 Million

Writer and television producer extraordinaire Shonda Rhimes is saying goodbye to another one of her Hancock Park homes. Back in January of this year, Shonda broke a neighborhood record when her luxurious 1923 Italianate villa designed by Elmer Grey (and shared with Architectural Digest after renovations) sold for a whopping $21 million dollars, the Los Angeles neighborhood’s priciest sale to date. This week, her cozy brick-clad English Manor home located in the same tony neighborhood is up for grabs at a comparatively cool $6.5 million.

Sitting primly on a 19,000-square-foot lot, the four-bedroom, five-bathroom historic mansion built in 1924 is properly hidden from neighbors and traffic by hedged-walls and multiple trees. A perfectly manicured lawn, complete with a grand fountain, is edged by both tamed and wild shrubs, and a stone footpath that leads to the double-door entrance.

When comparing the home’s current interiors to its decor back when Rhimes made the purchase in 2017, it seems like the executive producer of the tv series Bridgerton made a variety of upgrades that contemporize the space but keep the cozy manor feel.

Marble flooring in the foyer has been replaced with light-colored stone tiles that stretch into the open-plan kitchen and seating area which was previously laid with a dark wood-paneled floor. In fact, all of the formerly dark floors, both on the main floor and upstairs, have been replaced with lighter materials, giving the entire house a more airy feel.

Fireplaces abound, and can be found in the kitchen’s seating area, the formal living room, and the spacious light-filled primary bedroom. In the primary bathroom, beige stone flooring has been replaced with a light-gray stone and where there once was extremely dark, curved wood on sink cabinets, there are now white, straighter-angled wooden drawers and doors. A simple, open patio has been added to the backyard, which comes complete with a pool and pool house.

If this sale goes through, it’s most likely that the only Hancock Park property left in Rhimes’s possession will be the duplex she purchased back in 2007, as mentioned by Dirt.com. No reports of a listing or sale for this property have surfaced.
