Shailene Woodley Buys Midcentury-Modern Los Angeles Home for $4.4 Million
Shailene Woodley is the new owner of a Beachwood Canyon home, which she purchased in a quiet, off-market deal for $4.4 million. Built in the late 1950s by Kazumi Adachi, this midcentury-modern pad fits right in with the Los Angeles cultural DNA thanks to impressive walls of glass, iconic modernist details and large, unobstructed views of the famous Hollywood sign. The classic dwelling is often referred to as the Rifkin Residence after its first owners, a Mr. and Mrs. Lou Rifkin.
The home offers an abundance of privacy and is completely invisible from the street thanks to gates and a collection of trees and greenery. It’s a single-level house that spans about 3,500 square feet, with four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms, as well as a room that serves as an office. Concrete floors can be found throughout, and the bathrooms are finished with tile and imported marble.

A butterfly roofline adds character to the exterior and maintains the structure’s original vibe created by Adachi. The home also features fleetwood glass slides throughout, a separate studio and a kidney-shaped pool. According to Dirt, the property underwent a big remodel in the mid-1990s, which was overseen by architect Josh Schweitzer. The photogenic house has reportedly been used in dozens of Vogue, GQ, and Marie Claire editorial shoots.
Woodley gained attention as a teen by starring in the ABC Family show, The Secret Life of the American Teenager. More recently, she’s starred in a handful of successful TV shows and movies such as The Fault in Our Stars, Big Little Lies and The Divergent Series.
