In this project, via mirror reflection, the interior area completes its whole entity; the incomplete half contour represents behaviors of a human being, knowing the world through the connections with other people and recognizing self from social activities, that represents the reality part of the brain.
Whereas, the other reflected half contour is the inner side of a mind, finding a way to the six senses from Buddhism
Combining the two halves implies the meditation path of seeking balance for both sides.
Situated at a unit of commercial in a hectic city building downtown, this project is a meditation hideaway for urbanites to explore their minds, to enlighten self-awareness, and to undergo the practice of mindfulness.
Unlike most yoga rooms, and imagining the consciousness is capricious, distorted, and non-linear, the site interior is enveloped in Bezier surface, defined by a set of control points, from wall to ceiling in deep color backdrops.
With the continuously smooth surface, the site is visually intuitive, inspiring the meditator’s introspection to probe into the intricacy of the relationship between physical and mental situations.
Additionally, with consecutive smooth surfaces formed in Bezier surface, this non-linear space gives meditators perceive the sense of speaking and listening, the echo of acoustics, and reversing sensory perception simultaneously, providing a way of self-talking.
Backlit skirting boards expand the calm and spacious feeling via mirror reflection, lessening intervention and distraction to meditators.
A LED oculus, recessed at the center of the non-linear ceiling, accentuates the spatial identity and provides even lighting to the instructor.
