Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners is now RSHP

The London-headquartered architectural firm founded in 1977 as the Richard Rogers Partnership and subsequently renamed in 2007 as Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners has announced that it is leaning heavily into its oft-used acronym of RSHP with another formal change—an adjustment that comes several months after the death of its Pritzker Prize–winning founder, Richard Rogers, at the age of 88.

Beginning today, June 30, the practice is now simply known as RSHP. In a press announcement, the firm described the move as the “next step in the continued evolution of a studio that has earned a reputation for innovation throughout its 40-year history, delivering on some of the most challenging briefs in the built environment alongside visionary clients.”

In September 2020, Rogers announced his retirement from the firm; as The Guardian reported at the time, plans were reportedly put into place to begin Rogers’ transition toward retirement in 2007—the same year the Richard Rogers Partnership morphed into Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and the year Rogers was named as Pritzker laureate. As noted by AN when learning of Rogers’ 2020 retirement, the firm at the time had planned to remove “Rogers” from its name within the “next several months.” That never happened, obviously, and the “R” legacy lives on in this next chapter for RSHP.

Graham Stirk, a senior partner at RSHP who first joined the practice in 1983 commented: “As we come to terms with the loss of Richard, we are inspired to carry on the guiding principles of the practice he founded. Richard’s vision was always for a practice that drew on many talents, and that is what we will continue to do as RSHP. A strong, diverse, international team working with an array of exceptional clients, all around the world.”

As detailed by RSHP, the firm currently boasts 180 employees worldwide. In addition to its London headquarters at 122 Leadenhall Street (locally dubbed the “Cheesegrater,” the 738-foot skyscraper was designed by RSHP and is adjacent to the iconic Lloyd’s building, also designed by the firm), the practice maintains permanent offices in London, Paris, Melbourne, Sydney, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and, most recently, New York City. The firm is considerably expanding its stateside presence with completed and in-progress projects including a recently finished residential tower in Manhattan, a mixed-use residential high-rise in Philadelphia that broke ground earlier this year, and an in-progress bourbon distillery in Kentucky. RSHP associate partner Georgina Robledo is leading the New York office.
