architecture studio PAMPA has completed a small cabin on the seafront of coastal resort ‘punta rubia’ in uruguay. in an attempt to be integrated into its unique surroundings made of dunes and maritime pine forests, the resulting composition takes form as two boxes shielded by a timber skeleton. this way, the frame rises up the volumes, separating them from the ground, thus allowing free movement of the dunes. through this project, the design team sought to explore the alienation of domestic spaces, introducing a space for interaction and relaxation.'punta rubia refuge' shielded by timber skeleton is settled along coastline in uruguay

two independent but complementary modules

when it comes to the interior, the domestic program is divided into two volumes: one includes the sleeping areas while the other hosts the social spaces, encouraging guests for interaction and relaxation. the two boxes act as independent but complementary modules, providing all the necessities that a typical house includes. the design team at PAMPA strategically positioned the two units separated, forming intermediate spaces that offer spatial continuities.

this visual connection is further enhanced by floor-to-ceiling openings on the side of the volumes. besides the extension of the living area, this semi-outdoor area acts as cushioning, while allowing multiple circulations and varied uses depending on the solar route, the winds, and the seasonal changes. constructively, the first structure was assembled with local wood and topped by a metal roof, while the domestic modules were formed with a sip-type panel system.
