pimples studios opens a minty new retailer in SoHo, the big apple metropolis
an expanded soho presence for acne studios
with interiors by arquitectura-G, acne studios launches a new store in new york. acne studios had already occupied the location on 33 green street in SoHo, but at only half the size. by taking on the neighboring space, the team doubled the interior to span 7,000 square feet. now the store marks the brand’s largest location.
the barcelona-based architecture studio notes that its retail interior for acne studios is ‘informed by juxtapositions.’ surfaces with sharp edges are paired against a soft mantle of wall-to-wall carpet. meanwhile, a contemporary wash of mint is applied onto the original industrial features which recall the heritage of the building and surrounding neighborhood.

industrial style meets soft mint
with the new interior, the team at arquitectura-G (see more here) worked closely with jonny johansson, creative director of acne studios (see more here). the result shows an exploration of translucency, and an assemblage of sharp, angular geometries. the interior takes shape as an artificial landscape of glass panels, softened by the field of tufted wool carpeting by swedish rug and textile flooring company kasthall (see more here), who regularly partners with acne studios. the graphic lighting overhead further emphasizes the industrial language of the neighborhood, and was created by french studio benoit lalloz (see more here), another longtime collaborator.
the new york expansion
with its expanded interior by arquitectura-G, the team at acne studios now showcases its women’s, men’s, footwear and accessories collections, all in one space. the news marks a step forward for the brand, who acknowledges the cross shopping between genders. women’s accounts for about 60 percent of acne’s business, while men’s wear is 40 percent. this ratio is now reflected in the SoHo location.
