Located on the coast of São Paulo, Brazil, the PS House by Jacobsen Arquitetura was designed as a small-scale weekend residence with a garden and a pool. The home enjoys beautiful views of the natural setting and the nearby beach thanks to its strategic orientation, preserving its privacy thanks to the lush vegetation that surrounds it. The project applies neutral colors and materials, while a series of expansive windows and large verandas blur the limit between interior and exterior.

L-shaped residence opening toward the sea

At first, Jacobsen Arquitetura (see more here) started the project with the intention to create a much larger house, with two floors. However, the client opted for a one-story house that has a closer connection to the land. Since the site is flat and settles on a corner with two access points to the adjacent streets, the design team decided to adopt an L-shaped layout that opens towards the sea. In this way, the core of the residence is free from visual intrusions, receiving the pool and yard with the best sun orientation. Meanwhile, a charming private trail leads residents directly to the beach.

Built with steel structure, modest spans, slim wide eaves, wooden ceiling, and granite flooring, the house presents a controlled scale, meant to be practical and easy to take care of. The areas are designed to integrate as much as possible — the entrance hall, living and dining rooms turn into spacious verandas when the large glass windows are wide open and face the pool and garden. In addition, a playroom, sauna, and all service areas are placed on a lower level, using the slight inclination of the plot to disguise them. The social areas and the private areas were divided into two independent blocks and both overlook the courtyard, with the garden and swimming pool, besides the best solar orientation.

A Jasmine Manga tree connects the two blocks and is right at the entrance of the house, accompanied by a small living area. Due to the compact terrain, the pool deck is connected to the social area and works like a continuation of the leisure area. The block of rooms is elevated in relation to the courtyard to reduce the ceiling height and make private rooms more welcoming.
