joão teixeira designs ‘igloo’
Teixeira Design Studio’s ‘Igloo’ is a modern multifunctional cat bed disguised as as a small table to provide a cosy resting space for cats without compromising the human living space of their owners. The concept and design are based on the premises that cat owners’ homes can tend to become cluttered with pet objects and toys, and how cats instinctively seek small corners and dark spots to rest. Portuguese designer João Teixeira’s solution materializes as a small minimalist, sophisticated table with Scandinavian aesthetics that reduces clutter within the home, integrating a cozy shelter for your pet without disrupting the interior of your living space.

modern FURNITURE FOR BOTH felines AND THEIR OWNERS
João Teixeira’s design process favours function over form to create a balanced final product that can be shared by both felines and their owners, and which has a light, bright and minimal design. Putting aesthetics aside, the Portuguese designer firstly began with creating the bed itself. A simple spherical shape was chosen for a cozier look and feel that takes advantage of a cat’s natural curling resting position. Side connectors protrude from the sphere to attach to the four table legs, above which rests the rounded table top.
A sleek and elegant look was achieved by the use of modern design aesthetics, with contrasting materials, simple shapes and a minimal color palette featuring smooth white and light wooden surfaces. The white wooden finish of the table top helps to create a relation with the white plastic sphere nestled discreetly underneath it, connected by smooth, light wooden table legs. At the points where the legs intersect with table top, are smoothly carved cut outs in the table top, making the ‘Igloo’ a more sophisticated and visually appealing product.
