IKEA japan is renting a tiny condo in tokyo for simply $1 per 30 days
THE TINY APARTMENT MEASURES JUST 10SQM
IKEA japan has completely furnished an apartment in tokyo and is making it available for rent. located in the shinjuku district, the tiny space measures just 10-square-meters (107-square-foot) and will hit the market for just 99 yen (USD$0.86) per month.
with a total population of 14 million people, tokyo is the most populous urban area in the world. this has led it to become an expert in micro-living — from capsule hotels to communal share houses, they know how to work with minimal space. with this project, IKEA wants to make a point on how their furniture can make living in small places comfortable, cozy and functional.

IKEA REVEALS SPACE SAVING TRICKS FOR MICRO-LIVING
the design of this tiny apartment by IKEA japan uses different space-saving tricks. first and most important, it organizes the space vertically, splitting the space into two levels. on the first floor users will find the entrance, kitchenette, bathroom and machine machine, while a stepladder takes them to the sleeping mezzanine area.
the selection of furniture includes multifunctional IKEA pieces. for example, the IVAR storage system can be customized for different needs by adding (or removing) shelves, boxes, cabinets and even a drop leaf table for remote working. the one seater sofa turns into a bed, adding an extra sleeping bed. furniture on wheels allows to move everything around depending on what the user is doing — entertaining, working, sleeping etc.
for its real state launch, IKEA japan has created the tiny homes campaign, promoting small space living. the campaign is lead by its famous toy shark, blahaj, who personifies a real estate agent. the swedish furniture giant has been rolling youtube videos where the shark explains the design process behind the apartments.
the apartment will be only available for rent for a limited time — until january 15, 2023 — and only for IKEA family members. to apply, go to this website and hurry up, deadline is december 3rd.
