I Tried It: Sundays Movie Night Modular Sectional

Model tested: Sundays Movie Night Modular Sectional
The details: Founded by four friends in 2019, Vancouver-based Sundays Company has already amassed an enthusiastic following for its highly-livable modern furniture. For such a young furniture company, Sundays has a sizable catalog including patio and dining tables, consoles, kids pieces, and rugs, but its most marketed offering is by far the Movie Night—a modular couch and sectional line made in the style of RH’s Cloud Sofa. Like the Cloud, Movie Night is available in multiple sizes and configurations: The original has an oversized footprint that makes even the smallest offering lounge-worthy, and the more compact Condo version is a better fit for small spaces. Movie Night isn’t quite as customizable as the Cloud Sofa, but families with kids and pets will appreciate the super-comfy feather-blend cushions and the fact that it’s impressively durable. It also happens to have a much more accessible price point.
Ordering process
Price: How much does it cost? Are there payment plans available?
Prices vary depending on how many pieces you order, but Movie Night Sectional configurations start at $3,830 (the Condo version begins at $3,480). My four-piece sectional is $5,180. Shipping, which includes white glove delivery, is free. Sundays does offer a quasi payment plan option through Splitit, but it requires authorizing the full amount of the purchase on your credit card. You can also save $100 on your first order by signing up for the newsletter.
What are the upholstery or customization options? Did you choose any?
Movie Night is available in six neutral colors, ranging from a bright white (Brie) to a charcoal gray (Dark Shadow), though not all configurations are currently available in every color. Should anyone ever tire of their color selection, or need to replace some or all of their upholstery, Sundays offers slipcovers that can be purchased piece by piece.
What is the lead time for customization, manufacturing, and delivery?
Because the entire Movie Night line is modular and slipcovered, true customization isn’t really necessary. As I write this, most colors and configurations seem to be in stock and available for delivery in the U.S. within three to five weeks.
Couch delivery and assembly
What was the delivery process like?
I got my couch about a week after my estimated delivery window closed, but I don’t blame Sundays for the delay. When my order shipped, Sundays provided tracking information that allowed me to see that it arrived on time to the regional delivery service. I assume that, like many companies, the delivery partner was backed up and understaffed due to the pandemic, and in the grand scheme of things, an extra week isn’t a long time to wait (especially for furniture and especially right now). Once my delivery was eventually scheduled, the rest went quickly and smoothly.
What was the assembly process like? How long did it take and how many people?
Because Sundays offers white glove delivery service, I didn’t have to assemble this sectional or deal with any of the packaging. No packaging even entered my house! Two men showed up in a truck, and it took them about 30 minutes to get the whole thing inside and assembled. For something so big, the individual pieces are surprisingly lightweight, which made it fairly easy to flip them onto their backs to attach the clips that keep the main pieces together. I was also pleasantly surprised that this couch didn’t have any sort of chemical or new-furniture smell, so I wasn’t worried about off-gassing.
After installation
What are the dimensions? How does it fit in your space? Would it be better suited for a different type of home?
