Hugh Jackman Buys Penthouse in Jean Nouvel-Designed NYC Building for $21.125 Million
Hugh Jackman just got himself a deal on a penthouse in a Jean Nouvel building in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. The apartment was initially listed in October 2021 for $25 million and the actor, who is currently starring in The Music Man on Broadway, purchased it for $21.125 million.
The unit is just around 4,700-square-feet spread across two floors connected by a white staircase that starts in an all-white kitchen. There is also an impressive 3,700-square feet of outdoor space arranged for both dining and lounging. But of course, the most striking aspect of the penthouse are the views of the Hudson River provided by the building’s distinct facade.
Completed in 2010, the building is well-known for its curved, textured curtain wall facade, made up of varying sized window panes—approximately 1,650 of them—all set at unique angles. A press release published when construction began on the edifice in 2007 states: “Each windowpane inside is tilted at a different angle and in a different direction—up, down, in, out—bearing a slightly different degree of transparency according to a system meticulously developed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel and inspired in part by the renowned stained-glass window cycles of the 13th century Gothic cathedral of Sainte-Chapelle in Paris.”
Nouvel’s goal with the unique facade was to make a statement commenting on “the inherent beauty of the fragmented, varied, ever-changing life of New York City and its island relationship to water and sky.”
In June, Jackman listed his West Village triplex apartment for $38.9 million, though it has yet to sell. He still owns a home in the Hamptons.
