With the continuous folded-plate roof structure taken as the foundation, the design conceives a “flying” sports building. The rectangular main body of the stadium stands above the undulating “mountaintop” in a dignified manner. With the “mountain ranges” extending to its bottom, the gigantic and regular volume seems to be floating above the “mountain”.

This dramatic visual effect helps create a playful and appealing stadium, which breaks the cumbersome image of conventional sports buildings. The architects reflected on the forms of sports buildings, and hoped to break away from the stereotype of this building typology. Within the implementable scope, the team aimed to create an innovative sports building that can truly convey passions.

The vivid architectural form and intriguing space were expected to be able to impress the passers-by. The undulating “mountain ranges” and various exits & entrances were well integrated, in order to express the symbolic meaning of the form, guide human flow and safe evacuation and get rid of a conventional big platform that constrains architectural form.

Oblique lines, cutting and triangular shapes were adopted to shape the facade. The split folded plates embody the initial design intention, while the oblique lines make the building appear powerful. In addition, the triangular exteriors echo the logo of the Guangsha Group. Through the varying treatment of the triangular patterns and application of red color to the sides of these triangular units, the “floating” main volume creates a flexible and passionate architectural image.
