geometric home by sama arquitectos blends harmoniously into verdant web site in mexico
house in acapulco takes its cues from nature
in acapulco, mexico, sama arquitectos built a private residence that not only adapts to the local topography, but highlights it as the protagonist of the site. settling right on the edge of the sea, ‘casa acapulco’ takes its cues from the surroundings to generate brightly-lit minimalist spaces made of earthy materials. the project emerges as a play between natural land and man-made geometries organic and solid forms, light and shadow, providing the occupants with multiple visual highlights.

designed around the existing natural surroundings
casa acapulco by sama arquitectos respects the topography, and accentuates its charm without invading it. the shape of the structure was conceived based on the existing vegetation, while the allocation of the different spaces was also decided in response to the surroundings and the views. the social areas open towards the sea and the pool, providing uninterrupted views to the residents. meanwhile, the private areas are strategically positioned and partially concealed by the lush vegetation.
the architects built two volumes to divide the private and public areas. these volumes are also separated through their materiality since each one has a different exterior coating. inside, light and shadow engage in playful conversation, infusing the interior with mesmerizing visuals. in addition to the large windows and open spaces, the residence also incorporates a series of terraces created from the intersection of the two separate volumes. these areas present themselves unexpectedly, serving as a surprise while walking through the house, and offering generous views of the seaside and the verdant site.
