Challenge: FINTECH’s goal is to eliminate those financial companies who lack new technology. Firstly, how can the beauty of new technology design be shown to distinguish the space from traditional companies’ work space? Secondly, employees in this industry, generally, work extremely long hours. How can employees be made to feel at ease and comfortable? Thirdly, the two-floor site, is located underground, and the net height below the bottom of the structural beams is only 2.3m on the -1 floor.

This means that if the MEP pipelines are installed in the usual way, the whole -1 floor cannot be used because of a lack of net height.

Solution: A spiral staircase, to connect two floors in the lobby, has been designed using parametric software rather than being drawn by hand, therefore, the generated pattern of the staircase surface looks unique and it highlights the new aesthetic of the digital era; Similar technology is also applied to an installation in the atrium.

The installation, produced using cast concrete, is a “waterfall” and a “pool”. There are even copper ducklings “swimming” on the “water”. People love water features but due to the long cold winters, outdoor-waterscapes are not suitable in Beijing. The application of a fire-proof wood style film combined with cement and concrete meets the need for coziness and simplicity.

In addition to an area for the staff’s fixed desks, the office also provides: open work areas, brainstorm areas, “first-class seats” for personal reflection, a telephone booth, a bar and outdoor leisure areas with a sense of vacation. There are 6 special blue spotlights above the outdoor atrium to simulate moonlight.

The MEP pipelines originally on the -1 floor have been re-installed to the ceiling of the -2 floor, in order to maximize the net height.

More information: The FINTECH Co-working and Dragon Restaurant received investment at the same time from a single company. They share the entire space on -1 and -2 floors, as well as a sunken atrium where a bar is located and parties can be hosted.

Office employees and guests can enjoy stylish restaurants or private dining rooms nearby. The nature of the open office does not only belong to the inside space of the FINTECH Co-working, it also extends to a 6000sqm “micro-urban life group” of financial tech companies on the site. This includes the Dragon Restaurant and the atrium which is open to the public and is also considered as a living room of the city.
