Elton John Buys Futuristic Penthouse That Hasn’t Even Been Built Yet

It’s no secret that Elton John has a taste for eye-catching design, both in fashion and interiors. The iconic musician has amassed quite the real estate portfolio over the years, ranging from a colorful art-filled LA home to a palatial English estate. “If I weren’t a musician, I would love to be a decorator,” John told AD in 2000. According to Storeys, the Rocket Man is onto his next design-forward real estate investment: he and his longtime partner, David Furnish, bought a futuristic penthouse in King Toronto, an upcoming luxury development in Toronto’s King West neighborhood.

The bespoke two-story penthouse, named “Treehouse,” is made up of 2,602 square feet of interior living space and four terraces providing an additional 597 square feet of outdoor space. The price of the three-bedroom, three-bathroom pad has not been disclosed, but is surely hefty, considering its luxe trappings and amenities, which include an actual tree sprouting out of the floor on the lower level and stretching up to the top floor of the penthouse. John’s future home will also boast a sleek brass kitchen and a matching curved brass staircase, both custom designed.

King Toronto’s design, which is slated for completion in the fall of 2023, was dreamed up by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels and features a unique blocky silhouette, made up of organically stacked glass boxes lined with trees and other greenery.

The “Treehouse” is one of six penthouses offered by the structure, all of which incorporate trees, foliage, and terraces into their designs. The effect is that of “living on a mountaintop,” according to the building’s developer, Westbank. “It’s going to be very secluded and private. Because it’s on that top floor, it’s very difficult for people to look up to it. It’s also surrounded by greenery,” said Riz Dhanji, the president of the marketing firm representing Westbank.
