Ellen DeGeneres Buys $21 Million Montecito House Impressed by Alhambra Palace

When one door closes, another opens, and no couple is more familiar with this concept than Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi. The pair is constantly making real estate moves, particularly in the tony coastal California town of Montecito, and just after listing a property in the area for $13.9 million last month, they’ve bought another for $21 million, according to Dirt.

It’s no small price to pay for a three bedroom, four and a half bathroom house, but that low bedroom count isn’t for lack of space—the property is just shy of 12,000 square feet. What the residence lacks in room for overnight guests it makes up for with an array of ultra luxurious amenities, both indoors and outdoors. The 2.4 acres of terraced grounds feature, a heated swimming pool, a pickleball court, a bocce ball court, a koi pond, a tennis court, and a dining area under a covered pergola overlooking it all.

Inside, numerous distinct seating areas allow plenty of opportunities for lounging, the most impressive being a room with floor to ceiling windowed doors opening to an equally spacious covered balcony with a view of the Pacific Ocean. Custom millwork, including a range of distinct ceiling textures that vary from room to room, adds to the space’s lavish feeling. According to Dirt, the home’s design was heavily influenced by the Alhambra palace in Granada, Spain, explaining the excess of columns and general grandiose vibe of the place. It remains to be seen if The Ellen DeGeneres Show host and the General Public founder will live in the home or if they will flip it back onto the market before this time next year.
