DRIFT & avant arte create Sine, the artwork echoing nature’s rhythms
DRIFT and Avant Arte create oscillating sculpture sine
Limited edition sculpture Sine marks the second collaboration between DRIFT and Avant Arte. The artwork’s delicate structure is made up of a pair of glass wings that swings up and down, mimicking the ‘natural rhythms’ of the world that the artists seek to harness as DRIFT’s creative duo – Ralph Nauta and Lonneke Gordijn – believe these rhythms can have a positive impact on one’s state of being.

Avant Arte, the creative marketplace that makes discovering and owning art radically more accessible announces its second collaboration with DRIFT for the unique limited edition, Sine, that echoes the rhythms of the natural world from the frequency of waves breaking on a shore, wind whistling through the trees to the simple act of breathing.
‘We’re delighted to be partnering with Avant Arte again to create this edition for collectors to experience everyday. For us, Sine motion is the mother of all motion. We believe everything in this world has its own frequency which consists of Sine movements. Our goal with all our work is always to synchronize all movements. So our mission is towards balance, towards synchronization, to get everyone on the same page. Because only when everything is in line will you move forward in life. And that’s basically the basic law of everything,’ says Lonneke Gordijn of DRIFT.

With an edition of 50 spatial sculptures, Sine is actually inspired by DRIFT’s Amplitude piece, which is permanently installed in the Rockefeller Center, New York. The artwork, brings to life DRIFT’s ongoing exploration of the world around us and is inspired by a belief that the steady rhythms that abound in nature can have a material effect on humanity.
‘We’re super excited to be collaborating with Lonneke and Ralph on this beautiful edition. DRIFT creates the most spectacular, large-scale installations all around the world inspired by nature and technology. I’m thrilled we’ve been able to create such a unique edition for collectors to have their very own DRIFT Sine in their home,’ explains Christian Luiten, Head of Artist Community and Avant Arte Co-founder.

the delicate design of sine
Sine is made up of a delicate pair of glass wings that perform what DRIFT describes as the ‘natural rhythm’. The up and down swinging of the individual elements is triggered by weights that glide back and forth, which are synchronized by a computer. These movements in turn seek to synchronize onlookers, unifying them through simple motion. By merging these aspects, DRIFT believes the work can have a positive impact on one’s state of being.
