crash baggage’s vibrant new headquarters echo its fuss-free philosophy
crash baggage venice headquarters by alberto caiola studio
Housed in an 18th-century villa close to Venice, the Crash Baggage headquarters seamlessly combine minimalist simplicity with total flexibility. The Italian label is known for its pre-dented luggage that encourages customers to ‘handle without care’ — a sentiment that perfectly resonates across its new, fuss-free head office designed by Alberto Caiola Studio.
Accentuating and optimizing the villa’s high ceilings, sanded grey glass panels, and the brand’s signature yellow both underline and foster the interiors’ collaborative spirit. These are positioned all along the headquarters’ central corridor and in office spaces. Serving as whiteboards for note-taking and sketching, the panels are also magnetic. Their prominent position literally fixes the teams’ ideas and creativity front and center to underpin Crash Baggage’s core values and encourage teamwork.‘Crash Baggage as a brand is all about the attitude,’ explains Alberto Caiola. ‘My goal was to create a blank canvas for this attitude to fully express itself.’
pairing the brand’s signature yellow + rebellious energy with 18th-century interiors
To reinforce brand identity, Crash Baggage’s trademark yellow is repeated throughout the space. This includes striking window blinds and elements that lend flexibility to the company’s Italian head office: a modular sofa that can be reconfigured in multiple ways according to requirement, desks of varying heights for differing tasks, and wheeled steel storage systems.
Furthermore, the studio purposefully left the central corridor empty to allow for many functions, including exhibitions and events. A bar area with high stools also serves as a break area or an informal work meeting spot for employees to drink coffee.
Juxtaposing classic and contemporary, the bright yellow panels in particular contrast with the villa’s original dark-colored wooden doors, window frames, ceiling beams, and Venetian terrazzo floor, which has been lime washed. In that same spirit, 3D digital clocks set to Italian and China times connect Crash Baggage’s other headquarters and allude to the label’s focus on travel. Similarly, the door handle to enter the space takes the shape of a rock and roll hand gesture, signaling the brand’s rebellious philosophy.
