Contained in the Swanky New Bar on the Pendry Manhattan West Resort
As any New Yorker knows, the best watering holes can so often be found on the block less traveled. And so it goes that on an unlikely stretch of West 33rd Street, opposite a ramp to the Lincoln tunnel, past the rippling glass façade of a new tower by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, revelers can now cozy up in an oasis of glamour. Designed by AD100 firm Gachot as part of the recently unveiled Pendry Manhattan West hotel, the intimate evening bar features a site-specific installation by Nancy Lorenz, whose swirling patterns of gold leaf, mother-of-pearl, and lacquer reflect lighting by Hervé Descottes of L’Observatoire International. “Our favorite bars have a jewel-box quality to them—intimate, glowing, luxe,” says Christine Gachot, who favors the margarita. It’s negronis for her other half, John. In a space this swish, let’s have another round. pendry.com —Sam Cochran
