Social Housing in Brazil by Nebr Arquitetura

 

Following their social housing in Paudalho, Brazil, NEBR arquitetura has completed yet another affordable housing project in the same area. Shaped as a chain of houses with clean geometries and bright pops of color, the intervention intends to highlight the local topography that circumscribes the urban landscape of rural habits.

To realize this project, the team at NERB thought about the concept of inhabiting as the communion between context and dwelling, that is functional and can fulfill the wishes of the owners. The result sees a simple and honest architecture, an instrument for inclusion, articulated in the form of plural dwellings set next to each other, like a chain.

 

One of the prime concerns of the architects was how to overcome difficulties imposed by economic limitations, as well as how to handle the irregular geography of the site. Thus, the building party put emphasis on a simplified formal expression and construction process. The housing is formed as an ensemble of simple volumes, strategically positioned to enjoy panoramic views of the surroundings. The simple design language and the low height of the structures provide a more familiar, private character to the overall project. Meanwhile, bright pops of color characterize the front facades and serve as a lively accent to the green valleys that spread around the units.
