classic jeep model gets a sleek makeover: meet ‘the next wrangler’ by arjun kurunji
‘The next Wrangler’ by Arjun Kurunji
Indian designer and automobile enthusiast Arjun Kurunji shares his impressive take on the classic mid-size Jeep Wrangler. The final renders reveal a sleek and semi-futuristic variation of the original car model, which he dubs ‘The next Wrangler’. Reimagined in grey, metallic blue, and deep indigo, the proposed design celebrates the Jeep under a fresh new light without taking away its iconic boxy appearance. In Kurunji’s words, ‘the project is a search for a new aesthetic to represent the history and value of [the] Jeep Wrangler.’

‘old face with new attitude’
For ‘The next Wrangler’, Kurunji (see more here) sought inspiration from consumer electronics, including the shape and function of gaming consoles and rechargeable batteries. He began borrowing each product’s anatomical details and translating them into car features to develop, what he calls, a ‘robust union’ between automobile and gadget. While ideating his vision, Kurunji preserved the Jeep Wrangler’s signature features, namely its four-wheel base, seven-slot grill, tapering nose design, and military heritage. As he puts it, ‘Jeep is nothing without the strong face. [It’s] ideation in the direction of old face with new attitude.’
Kurunji is currently a designer at Maruti Suzuki India, an automobile manufacturing company based in New Delhi. His love for automotive design has pushed him to explore several reinterpretations of famous car brands like Aston Martin, Peugeot, and Koenigsegg.
