Jackie Kennedy’s Hamptons Summer Estate Sells for $52 Million

The historic East Hampton estate known as Lasata, made famous by its ties to Jackie Kennedy Onassis, has sold for $52 million, the Wall Street Journal reports. The 8,500-square-foot Arts-and-Crafts-style mansion was the site of the former First Lady’s childhood summers while it was under the ownership of her grandfather, John Vernou Bouvier Jr., in the 1920s. The Bouviers gave the seven-acre property its name, which translates to “place of peace” in the local Montaukett people’s native Algonquian language. Indeed, listing details claim that the serene sounds of Atlantic Ocean waves can be heard from inside the home, which is enveloped by verdant lawns and mature trees.

The grand 10-bedroom, 13-bathroom abode, which sports a crisp white exterior, was built in 1917 by New York City architect Arthur C. Jackson. Lasata was in need of significant updates and restoration when fashion designer Reed Krakoff and his wife, interior designer Delphine Krakoff, bought it for $20 million in 2007. The couple took care to bring the home into a new era while keeping its historic qualities at the forefront, and the final product was featured in the April 2016 issue of AD.

The picturesque dwelling next changed hands in 2018, when producer David Zander nabbed it for $24 million and got to work redecorating it with the help of AD100 designer Pierre Yovanovitch, going as far as flying in painters from Paris to utilize his preferred “cottony” style of brushstroke, according to the WSJ.
