The rock designed by INNOCAD
The ROCK, a Radisson RED hotel designed by INNOCAD, is located in Vienna’s vibrant district of Leopoldstadt, near the canal that branches off the river Danube. The building’s design captures the energy of its setting. Merging the public and private, the hotel welcomes guests to a courtyard with a 25-meter mural that echoes the street art outside. An event space, restaurant, gym and public rooftop bar with a partly cantilevered terrace, completes the amenities.

Glazed in a pristine white finish, the hotel’s façade prompts curiosity with an appearance with a particular edge. This rock-like formation consists of a uniform grid of windows with precise folds reminiscent of a solid stone. Playing on the hotel’s contradictions, the window frames are softened in a golden shade that contrasts with the exterior’s white body.

The interior expresses a modern swing in style. Harmonious, happy colors adorn the clean, textured surfaces. However, the outside is just as important to the interior. The windowsills form benches in 179 well-designed guestrooms, offering visitors views to look out across the city and canal. Light floods through the glass, framing surprising axes of vision of the surroundings, and adhering to strict municipal limits in terms of height and light – constraints that led to creative solutions.
