A Barbie Dreamhouse Could Soon Be Yours With This Backdrop Paint Collab

If you learned anything as a child, you’re probably aware that Barbie is a woman that will persevere against all odds. It’s been 60 years since the Barbie Dreamhouse debuted, and since then the iconic aesthetic has morphed into a microtrend of its own; called Barbiecore, this trend is sweeping TikTok by storm with its refreshing take on “hyper-pink escapism.” To celebrate this anniversary, the Barbie brand has teamed up with Backdrop to release a collection of Barbie-approved paint colors so anyone can transform their humble abode into their very own Barbie Dreamhouse.

“We could not be more excited to collaborate with Barbie, one of the most iconic and beloved brands in the world,” Natalie Ebel, cofounder of Backdrop, writes in a statement. “It has been a joy to work on this collection of colors and create a palette that allows Barbie fans, new and old, to bring a piece of the Dreamhouse into their own home.”

The collaboration brings three new Barbie-approved colors to the marketplace.

The special collection includes three pastel tinted hues appropriately named Barbie Dreamhouse Pink, Barbie Dreamhouse Purple, and Barbie Dreamhouse Blue. “Inviting fans to immerse themselves in Barbie’s world and bring her iconic style to life in their own environment with the Backdrop x Barbie paint collection is a perfect way to celebrate this milestone anniversary,” states Aimee London, vice president, global franchise marketing at Mattel.

Established in 2018, Backdrop entered the market as a startup hoping to center paint as an integral element of room, changing the narrative that wall coloring was stressful, boring, or a second thought. “Backdrop has always seen color as the most impactful way to transform your space and approached painting as a joyful form of self-expression,” Natalie adds.

Since its founding, the paint and wall covering company has gained a reputation for partnering with sometimes unexpected, though oddly fitting, brands to create custom lines. Before Barbie came into the picture, Backdrop partnered with Dunkin’, Coming Soon, and Madewell. Each color from the Barbie collection is priced at $45 for a half gallon and $69 for a full.
