Motivations, Techniques for the Project:
The project was driven by the ambition to explore how public infrastructure can adapt to future modes of mobility and urban living. Situated on the Atal Bridge over the Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad, Levitation Nexus employs the concept of anti-gravity technology to create a hovering circular form, offering panoramic views of the city.
Key design principles included biophilia, inclusivity, and sustainability, with features such as smart glass facades that generate electricity, a biosphere terrace, and a “Life Tree” as the symbolic and spatial heart of the project. The toilets were designed to be gender-inclusive, while integrated facilities such as flying EV charging stations, café-restaurants, and a light-based vertical transport system broadened their role into a vibrant urban node.
The team at Vitasti Design Studio took on the challenge of not just designing for immediate needs but speculating on the urban future of 2080. The task demanded balancing futuristic imagination with architectural coherence – transforming a utilitarian program into an architectural statement of optimism, adaptability, and civic dignity.
Details of the recognized Project:
Levitation Nexus reimagines the future of public sanitation as a hovering, multifunctional structure seamlessly integrated with flying transportation systems. The design envisions an inclusive, biophilic, and technologically advanced space that elevates the humble public toilet into a futuristic civic landmark.
